Our Scripture writing plan this month is titled: "Overflowing with Praise". This month we will be celebrating Thanksgiving, which is often a day that inspires us to reflect upon all of our blessings that we have received. Let’s focus on a couple of key words in that sentence. The words blessing and receive both tell us that we are given good gifts. The Bible tells us that every gift comes from God. James 1:17 says that, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (James 1:17, KJV) As we give thanks, we must remember Who we are to be thanking. God alone deserves our praise! We praise the Lord our God for the constant free gifts that He gives each of us remembering that every gift we receive from Him is a gift that we don’t deserve. God is good and what He does is good. We read in Psalm 119:68, “Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.” (Psalm 119:68, KJV)

We are imperfect people with a sinful nature. The Bible tells us that every inclination of the human heart is only evil all the time and none of us are good. The Bible tells us this in Genesis, “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5, KJV) In Psalm 14 we read, “They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Psalm 14:3, KJV) Our good God Who is completely sovereign, in His innate goodness, gives endless good gifts to the people of earth who are vile in nature and undeserving of them all. God is not obligated by anyone, and He can do with the people of earth as He pleases. Yet in His perfect goodness He gives us good gifts! Isaiah 46:10 says, “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” (Isaiah 46:10, KJV) Daniel 4:35 says, “And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Daniel 4:35, KJV)

We praise God Who is the One Who created all things, the One Who gives us breath and life, the One Who sent His Son Jesus to die the death that we deserve so that through faith in Jesus we may receive eternal life. We praise God who is the One Who gives us every good gift. The Lord our God alone is worthy of all honor and glory and praise!

Let us meditate upon the following passages of Scripture as our hearts overflow with the praise of God for all of His wonderful deeds!

Psalm 42:1-2

Psalm 73:23-28

Psalm 63:1-8

Philippians 4:4-7

Colossians 2:4

Psalm 100:1-5

Psalm 103:1-22

Psalm 9:1-2

Psalm 34:1

Praise be unto the Lord our God not only on Thanksgiving but every day, every hour and every moment that there is! The Bible says in Psalm 150, “Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.“ (Psalm 150:6, KJV) Let us draw near to God and praise Him out of sincere hearts and with the full assurance that faith brings! (Hebrews 10:22)
