The Armor of God Scripture Writing/Reading Plan September 2026

Our Scripture writing plan this month is about the Armor of God. God has given us this armor in Jesus Christ our Savior and we must put it on each day actively using it as we fight the good fight of the faith. 1 Timothy 6 :12 says, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12, KJV) Ephesians 6:10-18 is the main passage of Scripture that we are studying this month. Ephesians 6:10-18 says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” (Ephesians 6:10-18, KJV) Let’s spend a few moments on each piece of the armor of God before we begin our Scripture plan this month.

First, we have the belt of truth. Jesus our Savior is the truth. We are told this in John 14:6 which says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6, KJV)  We also read in John 1:1 that, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1, KJV) God’s Word is the truth. The Bible also tells us that no Word from God will ever fail. (Luke 1:37) We also read in Psalm 119:160 that, “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” (Psalm 119:160, KJV) Utilizing the belt of truth means that we anchor ourselves in God’s Word instead of relying on our personal feelings. We meditate on God's Word being reminded of Who God is and who we are in Him. We stand firm in Biblical truths that we are loved, chosen and secure in our Savior Jesus and we reject and dismiss any feelings of shame or insecurity. We silence lies and half-truths with Scripture. (Read Mathew 4:1-11 to learn how Jesus replied with Scripture when being temptedby the evil one) We faithfully study God’s Word so that we can learn what Scripture says and be constantly reminded of the truth. We try to memorize God’s Word so that we can meditate upon it wherever we are. We always have our Bible ready and turn to God’s Word immediately when we need to be reminded of the truth when we are battling spiritual deception. The Bible tells us that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, KJV) So, put on the belt of truth and stand firm in God’s Word.

Second, we have the breastplate of righteousness. In Jesus Christ our Savior we are eternally forgiven for our past, present and future sins. (Colossians 2:13-14, Hebrews 10:14) Through Jesus we are reconciled to God, and we have peace with God through Him. (2 Corinthians 5:18-19) Once we are in Jesus, we are clothed with Jesus and when God looks on us, He sees His Son. (Galatians 3:26-27) In Jesus, we receive His righteousness as our own and in Jesus we become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 1:30) The breastplate of righteousness guards our hearts. Ther righteousness of Christ guards our hearts from all guilt and shame and condemnation. The Bible tells us that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 says that “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1, KJV) We are also told in Hebrews 10:14 that “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews10:14, KJV) By Jesus’ sacrifice He has made all Who believe in Him perfect forever. Perfect forever! We have become the righteousness of God through Christ, and we are being sanctified in Him to become increasingly like Him to the praise of God's glory. We no longer have any guilt or shame in Jesus our Savior! He took it all away!

We must also utilize the breastplate of righteousness to guard our hearts against self-righteousness and self-reliance as though we could use our own efforts to please God. The Bible tells us that we are saved in Christ alone through faith and not by works. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV) We do not have a righteousness of our own that is earned by works but the righteousness of Christ that is through faith. (Philippians 3:9) Thinking that we need to do something to keep our salvation or earn God’s continued love or forgiveness leaves us feeling defeated and none of it is true. We need to use the breastplate of righteousness to combat those lies. God is the One Who saved us, in Christ, according to His will for His own purpose to bring Him glory. Ephesians 1:3-6 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” (Ephesians 1:3-6, KJV) Also, Ephesians 1:11-14 says “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:11-14, KJV) God loves you because He loves you, period. Utilize the breastplate of righteousness against the feelings of condemnation and shame and to also die to self and deny self-reliance.       

Thirdly we are instructed in fitting our feet with the Gospel of peace and the readiness to share the Gospel with others. In Jesus, we have peace with God. Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” (Romans 5:1, KJV) The peace of God guards our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus our Savior above all understanding. Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, KJV) We have peace with God, Jesus Himself is our peace. (Ephesians 2:14) We must also live at peace with one another. In Romans 12:18 we are told, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” (Romans 12:18, KJV) We have peace with God and because of this we are provided with the readiness to share the Gospel of Jesus with others with joy in our hearts. Believers are the ambassadors of Christ and God shares the Gospel of Jesus with others through us. We read in Romans 5:19-20, “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthains 5:19-20, KJV) As believers in Christ, we are those through whom God shares the Gospel with others and we are instructed to do so with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15 says, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” (1 Peter 3:15, KJV) Havnig our feet fitted in the Gospel of peace, reminds us that we have peace with God and to live in peace with others, spurring us on and preparing us to readily share the Gospel of Jesus with others.

Next, we have the shield of faith. Utilizing the shield of faith enables us to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one, all the lies and half-truths that come our way. We always trust in God in every situation rather than being anxious because of the current circumstances we may face. We trust in the Lord our God with all our hearts. We read this instruction in Proverbs 3 :5-6 which says, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, KJV) We actively use our shield of faith as we fight the good fight of the FAITH. 1 Timothy 6:12 tells us to “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12, KJV) Utilizing the shield of faith also reminds us that we are eternally saved and forgiven in Christ, through faith in Him. Remember what Hebrews 10:14 tells us, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14, KJV) Jesus Christ our Savior has made us perfect forever, and we are being sanctified in Him. The Bible tells us that “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, KJV) We always trust in the Lord our God and we believe and stand firm in His precious promises to us in His Word. We trust in God and His Word that never fails and we dismiss the lies and extinguish those arrows of deception.

We also have the helmet of salvation to put on and utilize in our spiritual battles. The helmet of salvation is utilized to guard our minds with the assurance and security of our eternal salvation in Jesus Christ our Savior. We meditate upon God's Word which tells us these truths. The helmet of salvation is used to protect our minds against fear and doubt and to guard our minds with the truth of God’s saving grace in our Savior Jesus. We know that as believers in Jesus we are no longer slaves to sin. Romans 6:6 says that “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” (Romans 6:6, KJV) Again, I am going to reference Hebrews 10:14 reminding us that, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14, KJV) We need to remember that precious truth and promise! Utilizing the helmet of salvation means relying on God and meditating on what He tells us in His Word about our identity in Christ and the assurance of our salvation, as well as the truth that salvation comes from God alone. Remember what we read a few paragraphs ago in Ephesians 1. This passage of Scripture reminds us of who we are as believers in Christ and of the assurance of our salvation in Him. Another passage of Scripture to meditate upon is Romans 8:28-30 which says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” (Romans 8:28-30, KJV) We need to meditate upon Scripture and remind ourselves what God says about Who He is and Who we are in Christ. Put on the helmet of salvation to guard your mind against lies and be constantly reminded of your secure salvation in Jesus.

We are also to utilize the Word of the Lord our God. The Word of God is our offensive piece in the armor of God. We utilize God’s Word to combat the lies that the evil one tries to tell us, and we respond with the truth of Scripture to dismiss those lies. The Bible tells us that the Word of God is sharper than any double-edged sword and it penetrates to the heart.  Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, KJV) The Word of God cuts through our personal sin. The Word of God is active in accomplishing God’s purposes. God’s will for us, as believers, is to be sanctified by Him becoming more like our Savior Jesus and that we should share the Gospel with others all for His glory. (Romans 12:1-2, Matthew 28:18-20) In order to become more like Jesus, we need to be made aware of our sin so that we can be corrected of our sinful ways and become more like Him. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Psalm 119:11 says that “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:11, KJV) We need to study the Word of God and meditate upon Scripture so that we can learn from God’s Word and be corrected of our ways and be prepared to combat lies with Scripture. Joshua 1:8 tells us that “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8, KJV) As we go through the other pieces of armor in the armor of God, we reference the importance of Scripture in each one. We must be in the Word so that we know what God says about us and about Who He is and we will then know the truths that we need to know as we utilize the other pieces of armor. We must study the Word and memorize the Scriptures so that we can meditate upon them throughout the day and night and stand firm in the truth and God’s precious promises to us. We must faithfully be in the Word of God!

We must also be faithful in prayer. The Bible tells us that it is God Who works in us to fulfill His purposes. Philippians 2:13 says “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13, KJV) We are completely reliant upon God for He alone can satisfy our souls. We are often unaware of our own sinful ways. We must pray and ask God to reveal our sin to us so that we can repent and be corrected of our sinful ways. Let's read that again. As believers, we repent of our sin so that we can be corrected of our sinful ways knowing that in Jesus Christ we have already been forgiven for our sins. We read in Psalm 139, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24, KJV) Only God knows our hearts completely. God alone knows every bit of our hearts every single corner, every nook and cranny. God alone satisfies our souls completely and meets our every need. (Philippians 4:19) We read in Psalm 73, “Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.  But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.” (Psalm 73:23-28, KJV) We were created for God’s glory, so, to please Him is satisfying to our souls. What pleases the Lord our God? That we keep His commands. So, we pray and ask God to empty us of self and rid us of our idols and other sinful ways so that we can be corrected and be sanctified in Jesus therefore keeping His commands in increasing measure. Colossians 1:9-14 says: “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:” (Colossians 1:9-14, KJV)

We also pray with praise for the Lord our God. As we just read in Colossians 1:13-14, as believers we have been saved by the Lord our God, in Jesus Christ our Savior, and He has brought us into His kingdom rescuing us from sin and death and the dominion of darkness. Praise be unto the Lord our God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15) We are to be overflowing with praise of the Lord for what He has done for us! We read in Hebrews 13 that through Jesus and “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” (Hebrews 13:15, KJV) In the Name of Jesus we are those who open our mouths and praise the Lord our God for all His wonderful deeds! We ourselves proclaim Psalm 63:3-8, “Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.” (Psalm 63:3-8, KJV) We know God personally and we are those whom He has blessed with eternal life and we now get to spend eternity with Him praising His holy Name!

We also pray for others. If you were to know all the faithful followers of Jesus who are praying for you and your needs and the number and locations of some of those people, you would be completely surprised and praise God for His perfect faithfulness. God has believers faithfully praying for us and He also has us faithfully pray for other brothers and sisters in Christ. The vast number of believers praying for a certain individual recently brought my attention to this. A family was suffering through a difficult season of life. I did not know this family personally and had never even met them. God had me praying for them and many in my church family were praying for them as well and most likely some of them never knew the family either. I then went to a different location that was quite some distance away only to find that the local church family in that region was praying for that family through their suffering as well. God had people all over praying for them! People that they have never even met! God is completely perfect in love, and His mercy never fails! God is perfectly faithful! We read in Ephesians 6:18 that we are to be “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” (Ephesains 6:18, KJV)

We are instructed in the Bible to be faithful in prayer. We are told in Romans 12 that we are to be “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;” (Romans 12:12, KJV) Again we are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, KJV) We are to be faithful in prayer trusting in the Lord our God, knowing that He is working in all things for His glory and our good (Romans 8:28) and that He is faithful to answer our prayers according to His good, pleasing, and perfect will. (John 15:7, 1 John 5:13-15) Philippians 4 tells us to “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7, KJV)

In conclusion, let’s remember that we need to faithfully put the armor of God on every day! We must be actively utilizing the armor that God has given us in Jesus Christ our Savior as we fight the good fight of the faith! Don’t try to take credit for staying on the path of righteousness, for it is God Who keeps us and we don’t have to do anything to try and keep up, God is perfectly faithful and He is guiding us for His glory and for our good. Remember this word of encouragement from 1 Thessalonians which says, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24, KJV) Remember that nothing will separate us from the love of Christ! (Romans 8:31-39) Jesus tells us that “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, KJV)  We will go from here with this passage of Scripture to encourage our hearts, “If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.” (Psalm 139:18, KJV) Let us proclaim with the Psalmist, God, when I awake I am still with thee! God is always with us, and He will never leave us! (Hebrews 13:5)
