Proverbs 22:6 and Deuteronomy 6:6-7 Scripture Memorization Tool

This month our Scripture plan is about parenting, specifically raising children in the Lord. Our memory verses this month come from Proverbs and Deuteronomy. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6, KJV) Our other Verses to memorize this month come from Deuteronomy 6:6-7 which say, " And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." (Deuteronomy 6:6-7, KJV) We are to instruct our children in the ways of the Lord and teach them His commands. Let us remind ourselves of what God's Word tells us in 1 John 3:23 which says, " And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.” (1 John 3:23, KJV) As we teach our children the commands of the Lord and instruct them in His ways, we must share the Gospel of Jesus with them, consistently spending time in God’s Word and in prayer with them. We must share the Gospel with our children because God’s command is that they believe in the name of Jesus.

In Romans 10:8-15 we read, “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:8-15, KJV) Share the Gospel of Jesus with your children, teach them the Gospel and minister continuously to their hearts. We are instructed to do so and it is a precious blessing to be the feet that bring the good news of the Gospel of Jesus to others including our precious children.

Let us also remember the encouragement and instructions we receive from 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 which says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:17-21, KJV) God has given us His ministry of reconciliation for the sinner through Christ Jesus our Savior and we are, by God’s perfect grace, Christ’s representatives through whom He is making His appeal to all people. So, we must teach our children the Gospel of Jesus as we ought. We must be faithful servants of the Lord being able to present ourselves to Him as servants approved who do not need to be ashamed. We must handle the Word of Truth correctly. (2 Timothy 2:15) Let us serve the Lord our God with wholehearted, undivided devotion!

All believers in Christ can be encouraged remembering that God does not treat us as our sins deserve. “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.” (Psalm 103:10, KJV), So, do not be discouraged and remember that the Lord our God is full of compassion, He does not withhold His mercy from His children, and He is the God of all comfort! (Psalm 103:8, Psalm 40:11, 2 Corinthians 1:3)

You can utilize this memorization tool as you spend time in the Scripture plan this month. It is important to memorize Scripture so that we can meditate upon it being constantly reminded of the truth and taking encouragement from it. Memorizing Scripture also allows us to be better prepared to share the Word of God with others. Enoy spending time in God’s Word growing in the Lord our God!
