Last week we were encouraged to spend time reading and studying God’s Word each day. When we are faithful in reading God’s Word we start to learn more about God’s Word and His instructions on how we are to live our lives in Him. I have said this many times but I will say it again: In order to live according to God’s Word and share His Word with others, for we are called and instructed to do both, we must know God’s Word. We must always keep in mind that God is faithful and it is God who works in us to do His will and to glorify Him. (Philippians 2:13) Praise God for this incredible blessing for He is always faithful even when we are not! The more time we spend in God’s Word the more we learn from His Word. When we spend time in God’s Word we find that we start to grow in God’s Word and in our faith. We find that the more we know God’s Word the more we reference His Word throughout our day. This encourages us to praise God throughout our day because we know God’s Word, His promises, His truth, and the endless eternal blessings to which He has called us!

Memorizing God’s Word is a way that we can spend more time in God’s Word and know His Word even better! Remember, God is faithful and He will make you faithful in Him. He will bring about His purpose and His will is always done. Praise God for these endless blessings for God always works for our good, the good of His children! When we memorize God’s Word we can reference His Word throughout our day. This helps us to live according to God’s Word and glorify God in doing so. Memorizing God’s Word also helps us to share His Word with those around us. Remember, we are called to both live to glorify God and to share His Word with others. God is faithful and He will make you be faithful in His Word! Do not get discouraged in your efforts to memorize God’s Word for there is no need to be discouraged! God is faithful and He will make you into the child of God that He desires you to be! God is full of mercy, grace and love and He constantly blesses us with all of these blessings and more even though we don’t deserve a single one. God knows your heart and He knows what you need and He will bless you with exactly that! So be faithful and be strong in the Lord! Remember, God is our strength!

Here on Good News Indeed we have monthly Scripture writing/reading plans. Each month the Scripture writing/reading plan has at least one Bible Verse to memorize. This may be a helpful place for you to start. When choosing which Bible Verses to memorize, any passage of Scripture is an excellent choice! God will lay on your heart which Scripture He wants you to memorize so do not spend any time worrying if you have picked the right Bible Verse, God picked it for you! Here are 6 tips that will hopefully be helpful to you when it comes to memorizing Scripture:

Tip #1 - Pray before you begin

Before you begin say a prayer. Praise God for His Word and the time that He is blessing

you with to spend in His Word. Ask God to bless you and teach you in His Word. Ask God

to bless you with understanding in His Word. Ask God to make you faithful in His Word and in doing what His Word instructs you to do. Ask God to make you faithful in living to glorify Him. Ask God to help you memorize His Word and ask Him to make you faithful in sharing it with others when He calls you to do so. Remember to believe and have faith that God will bless you with what you are asking of Him and remember that He is faithful and He will do it! (Mark 11:24)

Tip #2 - Read the Scripture and meditate on God's Word

Read the Scripture that you are going to memorize and then read that Scripture again! Take time and mediate on God’s Word. Think about what the Word says and think about what God is teaching you in His Word.

Tip #3 - Write the Scripture

Write the passage of Scripture down. Write the Scripture multiple times still being careful to mediate on God’s Word while you do so.

Tip #4 - Make your own index cards

Write the passage of Scripture on an index card, recipe card or a piece of paper that you can take with you wherever you go. Try writing the Scripture reference on one side of the index card or paper and the passage of Scripture on the other side. For example, one side would say John 3:16 and the other side would say “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV) Take this with you wherever you go and you can look at it throughout your day when you have time.

Tip #5 - Memorize with a friend

Ask someone to memorize the same passage of Scripture that you are working to

memorize. Then you can use your notecards to help each other memorize that Scripture. You can recite the Scripture to each other, checking to see if each person is quoting the Scripture correctly. If you do not have anyone to do this with or you do not feel comfortable with this it is not necessary! Do not worry God is the only instructor that you need and He is our faithful instructor!

Tip #6 - Pray when you have finished

Each time you are done spending time in God’s Word say a prayer and praise God for

blessing you with His Word and for blessing you with understanding in His Word. Praise

God for blessing you with time to spend in His Word. Ask God to continue to bless you in

His Word and to make you faithful in reading His Word. Ask God to make you faithful in

always doing what His Word instructs you to do and ask God to make you faithful in living to glorify Him.

Once you have memorized a passage of Scripture keep it always on your mind and

meditate on that Scripture throughout your day. Praise God for His Word and praise Him for blessing you to memorize His Word! When God lays it on your heart to share His Word and truth with others, go forth boldly in the Lord and do so! Do not worry or fret for God will speak through you and He will lay on your heart what is to be said. (Luke 12:11) It is God who works in us to do His will and it is God who shares His truth through us! (Philippians 2:13) Enjoy being the vessel through which God shares His Word and love with others! Praise God that He lives in you for none of us deserve the incredible endless blessings of God but He blesses us with His endless grace! Let me encourage you with these words from Matthew 28:19-20 that say “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV)
